Know Thy Enemy
It’s the dawn of the Basketball season and Boise State looks to repeat as champs as they open up their 2022-2023 basketball season at home against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. The Jackrabbits are coming off a heartbreaking loss in Overtime in their season opener against Akron on Monday. The Jackrabbits are looking to build off their conference championship and regular season championship from a year ago as well. SDSU was regular season champs of the Summit League for the 8th time in the last 10 seasons and for the fifth time in a row. Last season the Jackrabbits made the NCAA tournament for the 6th time in school history with their 30-4 record. During the course of last season they had a 21-game win streak and went 21-0 in conference play, something they had never done before in conference history.
South Dakota State will be looking for new players to step up as they lose their top three scorers from a year ago. Head coach Eric Henderson will more than likely lean on returning starter Zeke Mayo who led SDSU in their exhibition game earlier this week with 26 points.
The Jackrabbits are coached by Eric Henderson. Henderson is entering his fourth season as head coach. He has posted a 68-22 overall record and a 40-6 mark in the Summit League over the past three seasons.
What Happened Last Time
Wednesday will mark the first time that these two teams have gone against each other on the hardwood. So in theory, the Broncos are undefeated against the Jackrabbits.
Player to Watch
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
SO., ZEKE MAYO, G #2
The Sophomore from Lawrence Kansas had quite the productive freshman campaign and with the team needing to replace their top three scores from season ago, Mayo might just be that guy for the Jackrabbits. Last season Mayo was named to the 2022 Summit League All-Newcomer Squad, the only freshman recognized with the honors. He appeared in all 35 games and started in 21. He averaged 9.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season. As mentioned before he will likely be the leader of this team this season so those numbers should inflate as the year goes on.
BOISE STATE
JR., CHIBUZO AGBO, G #11
The 6’7” guard from San Diego, CA is a new face to this Broncos squad this season. The Transfer from Texas Tech has wasted no time in making an impact. Agbo started in the exhibition game against Carroll College and scored 14 points in 27 minutes played. He shot 50% from the field and 3 of 8 from downtown. With Boise State having to replace a few starters from last year's championship team, Agbo might be just the guy to keep the Broncos in title contention.
PROBABLE STARTERS

Rev's Route to a Bronco Win
Dr. Scholls
Boise is replacing three starters from their regular season and conference championship team from a season ago. Boise State is returning conference freshman of the year in Tyson Degenhart and key playmaker Marcus Shaver Jr. and stalwart Max Rice to this year's team. The Broncos added transfer Chibuzo Agbo and freshman Sadraque Nganga over the offseason which has many members of Bronco Nation very excited. It will take a few minutes for this new team and new starting lineup to gel with one another. Once they figure out how to play with each other the Broncos could be in for a good night.
Hit the Free Ones
Last season Boise State was terrible at shooting free throws. All season long we kept hearing and saying, “Oh they will figure it out,” but they never did and ended up shooting 65% from the charity stripe which was second to last in the Mountain West a season ago. Those numbers have to improve if the Broncos want to have a repeat of last season's championship.
